Quiting

I have to decided to stop the ration book diet and start again when I live on my own and have organised myself a bit better, sorry to the people who were looking forward to seeing how it went.

I will back, don't know where, don't when...

Ration Book Year - Last Week

I haven't written a blog post in a while because I've felt at battle with myself over whether I should continue on with this.
I have decided to restart again on Friday 25th January when I next get paid. Because to be honest I ran out of money quite quickly and have been scrounging of my dearest Mummy (Thank you Mum!).
This time I'm going to do it differently. I'm going to start (from today) researching a lot more about rationing, create a meal plan every week and limit myself to 1 hour on the computer every day.

Now i wrote this earlier and saved and I have since written my Meal Plan;

I apologize for the scruffy writing.

Here is the recipe for Fairy Toast

I have also just been researching into rationing etc. and found these brilliant, informative videos on the IWM's youtube channel.

Ta ta for now! x

Ration Book Year Day 12 & 13

I completely forgot to blog Yesterday, but partly because I fell asleep at 4 pm after a long day at work.

Today was 'Knit and Natter' a knitting group in my town, mostly visited by old ladies, but hey i'm basically a 90 year old women in a teenager's body!
It was very fun and i found some books that I took out on loan that are beautiful!
Here are some simply lovely patterns for you!

Breakfast: homemade lime curd on wholemeal toast with a cup of tea.
Lunch: Beans on toast
Dinner: Gammon, leeks, sweetcorn, and green beans with breadcrumbs in a cheese sauce.

And what about these adorable inside covers!

Ration Book Year - Day 11

Today I have broken all my rules again. I really don't know whether to quit or not.

I really don't want to because I don't like to fail at things.

I've been trying to take inspiration from people who 1930s/1940s lifestyles 24/7.
For instance Juffrouw Jo Hedwig Teeuwisse. Who I've seen on some youtube videos like this one,

Off subject but I am in love with her flat it is just perfect.

I would love to live like her but I think my problem is that I live with other people who aren't old-fashioned like me and still use modern things and eat modern food.
I'm not trying to make excuses for myself but I think that is the reason this is so hard.

I really was determined not to fail.
I am very frustrated.

That's why I haven't done any videos diaries over the past 2 days.

I think on Monday I am going to start again. I am going to plan my finances and write meal plans. I will also do as much craft as I've been meaning to do over the past year. I will listen to my records. I will watch 2 hours of Television a week (this can be a film or a program).

I just think I didn't plan this out before I started it. I thought i knew what I was going to do but I didn't.

So ta ta for now!

Ration Book Year - Day 10

I am very much missing my tea, as I am rationed to 2oz a week (10 tea bags). So every afternoon i pretend to visit my Mother and she pretends to offer me a cup of tea as if we lived separately. That way I get an extra cup per day and if I'm really lucky she offers me cake (cake being in very short supply due to limited sugar).

Because obviously people did pop round and visit relatives and friends, so i'm not really cheating..

Ration Book Year - Day 9

I have a confession.
I have watched some television.
I have eaten things that were not available in the war.
I have snuck onto youtube etc. whilst writing my blog.

And I am ashamed.
I am a failure.
I feel as if I have not only let myself down but my followers down.

However, If you still like me i will be calling this my 'black market moment'.

I hope that you will still let me continue on with this.

Thank you for following and I'm sorry if I let anyone down.

I am determined to turn this around and start afresh and authentic.

Thank you!

Ration Book Year - Day 8

Bonjour!

I haven't done a video today because i haven't got dressed or put any makeup on so i look less than appealing.

8 days in and I'm starting to get used to this. I'm still getting to grips with the no television or computer thing, but i will do it. I think what is not helping is the fact that my family still use these things, so it's very hard to not watch the television when my sister has put it on and is watching it.

Margueritte Patten has been a real help in the form of her recipes. However, i want to try out more of her recipes because i seem to be cooking the same thing everyday (vegetables and a piece of meat or fish). I want to try to make a Lord Woolton Pie.

So all in all, this past week has been good. Boring at times but i will get ued to watching not television or going on the computer.

Ration Book Year - Day 6

Hello!

Today I have not done a video diary because to be honest i have to talk about in the video. I have been eating pretty much the same meal every single day and i have nothing interesting to talk about.

I also have to admit i have been bored out of head. No watching televsion is okay, but not going on the computer is so hard because that's all I ever did before. I've been trying to keep myself busy with knitting and listening to the radio but I still seem to be bored all day.

I've been trying to put myself in the mindset of someone in the 1940s. Trying to say to myself compter and televsion havent been invented so i'm not missing out on anything but it's really hard.

So yes, this Ration Book Year thing hasn't been as fun as I thought i would be.

Hopefully tommorow I will try and have a different attitude about everything.

Ration Book Year - Day 4

Just did a cooking video today!

Not much to talk about today. I had the same breakfast as Yesterday (Grape Nuts and sultanas and a splash of milk) and for lunch i had butter bean soup that i made yesterday.

Will do more of a bigger post tommorow!

Ration Book Year - Day 3

Hello All!
I tried to film a bit more today, however i was not looking very glamours at all today so i do apologise for my laziness.

Here is the recipe for Butter Bean Soup:
1/2 onion chopped
lard to fry onion in
1 potato
1 can of butter beans
seasoning
garlic

Fry chopped onion in lard, add garlic. Peel and chop potato, add to pan with enough water to cover. Bring to boil, then simmer for 15 minutes. Add butter beans until heated through. Liquidize then season to taste. Makes 4 generous servings.

Also i wanted to share with you all a radio programme i thoroughly enjoyed last night.

Ration Book Year - Day 2

Here is my second youtube video.

The recipe for egg less fruit cake.
It it a recipe from Marguerite Patten (one of my favourite people in the whole world!)

I have definitely enjoyed no TV or computer, i find it quite liberating. Like i'm not wasting my life sitting in front of a screen for hours on tumblr etc.
I find the 'wireless' excellent! You learn so much listening to BBC Radio 4!

I've not must to report really but tommorow i will try and do a cooking video! :)

Ration Book Year - Day 1

Today is the first day of my Rationing year. Every 2 months will represent 1 year. I am starting in 1940 because in 1939 they didn't have any food rationing, hence the phrase 'phoney war'.
One week's ration for one adult.

The first meal of my rationed diet i had was corned beef fritters with 2 slices of wholemeal bread and butter and one apple for pudding.

from the book 'We'll Eat Again'

I actually really enjoyed it, but i must admit since having my lunch i am feeling rather peckish but i suppose it's because I've got to get used to not eating as much as i normally do.

As i have restricted myself to no television and little computer this is what i shall be reading a lot of.

I've actually really been enjoying the Cazalets: the light years on BBC 4.

Ta ta for now! Until tomorrow!
